SIE announced the acquisition of Firesprite, a British game studio that used to develop games such as “The Playroom VR”

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) recently announced (9/8) that it has acquired Firesprite, a development team headquartered in Liverpool, England, and incorporated it into the ranks of its own game studio group PlayStation Studios, becoming its 14th studio.

Firesprite is a game development studio located in Liverpool, England. Founded in 2012, it has worked with SIE to develop PS4 game “The Playroom”, PS VR game “The Playroom VR” and mobile game “Run Sackboy! Run”, in addition to production Released the original sci-fi horror game “The Persistence” series, and the new work “Star Citizen: War Zone” under development in cooperation with “Star Citizen”.

Firesprite has many members from SIE Liverpool Studio, so this acquisition can be said to be an alternative return.

SIE stated that Firesprite is a creative and ambitious studio that excels in creating incredible experiences and truly demonstrates the potential of PlayStation hardware. The team’s technical and creative capabilities will be the key to the development of SIE’s exclusive game lineup.

SIE has acquired 3 game studios this year, including the Finnish game studio Housemarque from the production team of “Death Return”, and the Utrecht game studio from the development support team of “Marvel Avengers” and “Tomb Raider”. Nixxes Software, together with the announcement of the British Liverpool game studio Firesprite, has expanded the lineup of the game studio group to 14 companies.

PlayStation also gave us the opportunity to create our own IP “The Persistence”. We were given the creative freedom to explore, innovate and release a survival horror game that we are extremely proud of. Now, as a first-party studio, we know that we have the full support of PlayStation to promote our tradition of combining creativity and technological innovation to provide PlayStation fans with some truly unique experiences.
