South Mountain Community College (SMCC) is gearing up to host its First Annual Mental Health and Wellness Expo this Saturday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, titled “Hope and Recovery,” will take place on the SMCC campus in south Phoenix.
With the goal of shedding light on the mental health challenges faced by families in the community, the expo aims to spark conversations about recovery and resilience. A recent Pew Research Center report on parenting found that many parents are concerned about their children potentially experiencing anxiety or depression.
In an effort to support families in south Phoenix, SMCC is bringing together resources and activities related to mental health and well-being. The expo will feature family wellness activities, mobile health clinics, music, vendors, food, and more. Additionally, Kevin Hines, a best-selling author, global public speaker, and award-winning documentary filmmaker, will be the keynote speaker, sharing his inspiring journey and ideas on the importance of mental wellness.
SMCC has been offering a Behavioral Health Sciences degree program since Fall 2023 and is proud to be one of the Maricopa Community Colleges offering a 4-year bachelor’s degree. The college is dedicated to nurturing future mental health professionals who will contribute to community mental health support in the future.
The event, aimed at raising awareness and providing support for mental health, promises to be an educational and empowering experience for all attendees. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn more about mental well-being and connect with resources in the community at the SMCC Mental Health and Wellness Expo.
