Sony acquires “The Playroom” developer Firesprite

PlayStation Studios x Firesprite

Sony’s PlayStation Studios studio lineup now welcomes its 14th member. Earlier it was officially announced that it had acquired Firesprite, the developer behind “The Playroom” and “The Persistence”. “Firesprite is a creative and ambitious studio. They are very good at creating incredible experiences that can really show the potential of our hardware.” PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst wrote in the official blog, ” The technology and creativity of this team are crucial to the development of our exclusive game lineup, and I believe you will also be excited about what is coming.”

As part of the transaction, “multiple Firesprite developers” will join Sony, including all the founding members of Firesprite who have worked in Studio Liverpool. For them, this is considered a return to Sony. Sony acquired Studio Liverpool as early as 1993, but chose to close it in 2012. Almost in the same year, Sony began to collaborate with Firesprite later, and “The Playroom” was also considered a well-known work on the PS4 platform.

The Firesprite team is currently working hard to develop new works, but the specific content has not yet been made public. Considering that most of their past games contain some VR attributes, this new game is estimated to make good use of Sony’s second-generation PS VR.
