The new Apple policy is precisely designed to make sure you avoid the prank after any theft or loss, avoiding using resources to fix a phone that in all likelihood it is not in the hands of the rightful owner or beneficiary. It builds on existing rules that for example already prevent technicians from removing the activation lock on a device unless the customer can provide proof that they have actually purchased it. Not just theft: Apple doesn’t even allow you to perform an intervention or repair when users report their device in lost mode via the Find My app (which some may remember with the old name of Find My iPhone), which locks the device, if desired, initializes it by deleting data and disabling Apple Pay cards and displays contact information on the lock screen. To this indication is therefore added now also the one in which the iPhone is reported as lost in the GSMA register but the owner has not reported it as such within Where is. But what to do if your iPhone is stolen or we are no longer able to find it? First of all, do not panic: it is worth looking for it on the Where is app, by logging in with your Apple ID via another device, or on iCloud. If Find My has also not been activated, and therefore your phone is not on the map, there is a way to protect your account. Then the device, always from the app, goes marked as lost: when you mark it as such the iPhone comes remotely locked with a code and keeps your information safe. This feature also disables Apple Pay. As mentioned, it is also possible to show a personalized message with contact information to anyone who finds it. It must then be carried out report to the police and, if you are an AppleCare + subscriber, submit a request for a replacement iPhone.
