Jointly developed by SQUARE ENIX and KOEI TECMO Games Team NINJA, the action role-playing game “The Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin” (PS5 / PS4 / Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One / PC), which was launched on March 18 Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director of original planning and design supervision, recently accepted a written interview with Asian media to answer questions about the game’s creative concept and content. He also confirmed that DLC will be released in the future, which will expand the gameplay and add new bosses for players to challenge.

media:In the development of this work, what is the core concept or direction?

Nomura:As far as the story goes, it’s anger. And as a game, the core concept is the destruction created by that rage.

Nomura:Garland is the emblematic boss of the FF series, he has a lot of room for imagination, and is a character that makes people want to dig deeper. I’ve been thinking about Garland since more than a decade ago, and the development team this time happened to be Team NINJA, and I think their production fits the hardcore content I have in mind.

media:It is said that the theme song “My Way” has something in common with the main character Jack’s mood and way of life. Did you choose the song based on Jack’s story? Or was Jack’s story based on the song?

Nomura:This song is a famous song that I listened to a lot since I was a kid, but I didn’t understand what it was until I grew up to a certain age. When I started making this work and painted the last scene in my mind, “My Way” started playing automatically in my mind, and I was very excited. After that, I thought this piece was the only choice for the ending.

media:What was the challenge of re-architecting the character design of FF1?

Nomura:Since “FF1” itself is a work with many parts that players need to imagine by themselves, I originally thought it would be better for players to feel “this is what I imagined”, but this time I actually captured the essence of the original design, and then Designed to match the story of this work. “FF” is not a classical fantasy work originally, but has a unique world view mixed with super civilization. I also expressed this more clearly through the character design.

media:Which character did you enjoy the most when designing?

Nomura:It’s still Jack. After all, this work was created to describe Jack.

media:Although the story of Jack and his friends has temporarily come to an end in this work, is there any chance to describe their story in more depth in the future, or let them appear again?

Nomura:This work is expected to launch DLC, so it may be mentioned in the DLC at that time, but it should not be described in depth. Because in this article it has ended perfectly.

media:Levels with the theme of “FF1” to “FF15” will all appear in this work. Is there any reason?

Nomura:If you examine the stories including the “Fool’s Notebook”, you should be able to understand the intention of this setting. In terms of production intentions, the concept at that time was to make a maze action game as a sequel to “Dissidia Final Fantasy”, and to add well-known characters from the “FF” series and classics from the “FF” series. Landmarks, to create an all-star work, and this time we used that concept to make.

Nomura:Not unrelated. Stay tuned for the DLC.

media:Will the story be expanded in future DLC? Or will it expand the gameplay?

Nomura:Basically, the main purpose is to expand the gameplay, but also to describe the story of the new boss to some extent.

media:Please say a word to the players in Asia.

Nomura:Originally, I hoped to have more communication with you through publicity activities and other occasions, but given the current social situation, the days of inability to communicate freely will continue for some time. I think in such days, players will also have many needs that cannot be met, so I hope everyone can vent this emotion, and this work was born.

Please be sure to turn upside down with Jack’s anger in this world of Origin.
