The committee brings together the country’s broad expertise on child protection. In the opening meeting, current challenges were discussed and expectations for the child protection master plan were formulated. In a first phase, projects in the area of prevention and intervention will be funded with around 9.8 million euros.

With the first meeting of the monitoring group on the child protection master plan, the state government is taking another important step towards greater child protection in the state. The committee began its work this week – around 40 actors from the authorities, clubs, institutions and associations active in child protection discussed current challenges together and formulated their expectations of the child protection master plan, which is being developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration is developed. In a first phase, a total of 26 projects in the areas of prevention, intervention and work with those affected will be funded with around 9.8 million euros in 2024 and 2025. The accompanying group is intended to network relevant actors across the country and define short, medium and long-term goals for child protection.

“Child protection concerns us all. That’s why we have to develop a holistic and sustainable strategy together,” said Social Minister Manne Lucha in Stuttgart. “Child protection is a dynamic process in which comprehensive networking is of central importance. The process must always be open in order to adapt to rapidly changing social situations. This change is reflected above all in the ever-increasing fusion of the analogue and digital worlds as well as the increasingly complex protection needs of children and young people.”

The Child Protection Master Plan is an important part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Child Protection Commission, which presented its final report in 2020.

The projects currently funded through the Child Protection Master Plan range from early help to the development of protection concepts, prevention work in the areas of sexual violence, bullying, consumer behavior, violence and dealing with pornographic materials, to work with so-called “those prone to crime”. Other planned projects include the organization of a children’s day in 2025 and a new internet platform for child protection that will bundle offers and structures in the country and make them easily accessible.

In order to ensure that the Child Protection Master Plan creates and consolidates stable structures in child protection and reaches all children in the country, the accompanying group brings together the broad expertise available in the country.
