The Internal Medicine Service (MIR) of the Sureste University Hospital in Arganda del Rey has received renewed recognition for its excellence in patient care. Awarded by the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI), the SEMI Excellent accreditation is granted to Internal Medicine Units that demonstrate high-quality standards in patient care to reduce mortality rates and prevent unnecessary hospital readmissions and emergency room visits. This certification, which is reviewed every five years, highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing efficient and effective healthcare services within the National Health System.
The accreditation allows for the implementation of various quality improvement activities and programs endorsed by SEMI, aiming to enhance patient care outcomes and resource utilization. Additionally, it fosters collaboration among healthcare professionals, including internists, primary care providers, and specialists, as well as public health authorities and hospital administrators to promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
The Sureste University Hospital’s MIR service first received this accreditation in 2018 and has since maintained its standards of excellence in patient care. During the accreditation ceremony, attended by prominent officials such as SEMI President Juana Carretero and hospital staff including Desirée Vélez and Teresa Fernández Amago, the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services was celebrated. María Montserrat Chimeno, first vice president of SEMI, also commended the hospital’s dedication to quality improvement in patient care.
