The last few weeks of public discourse have been characterized only by the attention dedicated to the Green Pass and vaccines; the disease that we are trying to prevent, as well as the psychological and physical effects that the sick and the healed have suffered on their skin, seem instead to have disappeared from public attention.

It seems that all the attention of the public authorities and of epidemiological and immunological medicine are now oriented only to possible prevention strategies, while the modalities of possible therapeutic response to people who continue to contract the disease are left in the alternative. No one would ever dream of not devoting the utmost attention to therapeutic strategies for the treatment of measles, while promoting the prevention of this disease through the vaccine. Many Covid patients are still left in the hands of clinicians who do not visit live but only on the basis of telephone assessments, the doctors of the USCA are activated only in the most serious cases, paths for the mildly ill are unfortunately only widespread. , as well as follow-ups for patients with pulmonary, gastrointestinal or psychological outcomes.

On the Green Pass and antibodies front, moreover, we are witnessing a real bureaucratic-legal paradox that affects the recovered Covid, affected twice: by the disease in the first place, and by the failure to recognize the persistence of natural antibodies that those who has developed the disease tends to have in the overwhelming majority of cases for long periods. The Circular signed by the Prevention Department of the Ministry of Health in the figure of Doctor Rezza of 21 July 2021 established that the recovered Covid can have the possibility to be vaccinated within 12 months of healing, except that the Green Pass is instead issued to the recovered for six months and backdated to the end of the quarantine period, almost 4 million recovered Italians are in a condition in which they can be vaccinated within a year of Covid but can benefit from the Green Pass for a few weeks. Massimo Galli, immunologist of the Sacco of Milan, has highlighted in countless interviews how vaccination for the sick can configure an increase in the possible risk of adverse effects to the vaccine, as well as being counterproductive in terms of public finance when he tries to “cover up” those who have basically already been immunized naturally. Already last May a study coordinated by the University of Washington on the long antibody response in those recovered from the previous year was published in Nature, a study then confirmed by the scientific evidence (Evidence Based Medicine) of the study subsequently coordinated by Andrea Crisanti of the University of Padua and the Imperial College in Vo ‘Euganeo, which determined that a remarkable antibody titre lasts even nine months after infection; Professor Galli himself is out with a new study on the Brianza population coordinated by the Sacco di Milano and the University of Milan that goes in the direction of a reconfirmation of the same immunological principle according to which those who have passed the disease show an immunity that lasts, acquired by the effort of the immune system to heal from the virus.

A large part of the school staff, sportsmen, public and private professionals are in this situation, if it is true that the disease has now been overcome by at least six million Italians. How will the Ministry of Education behave with regard to healed personnel who – at the present stage – do not take and do not transmit the disease? Why do these workers have the possibility according to the Ministry of Health to be vaccinated within 12 months of recovery, but are denied the Green Pass? This stiffening on a purely bureaucratic approach represents frank legal and even immunological nonsense because it does not take into account the antibody titer that the cured patient can demonstrate with a simple quantitative serological blood test.

Let’s take an example: I am back from France with the dog that we always carry with us in the family, the vaccination passport indicates the presence of the rabies vaccine or the demonstration certified by a veterinarian that the dog has immune memory mediated by immunoglobulins (the so-called IgG ) which represent the memory of the immune system after an animal has been vaccinated. Furthermore, rabies is a virus in which mortality reaches up to 100% in those who contract the virus, as it is possible that for a dog that bites another dog or a man the antibody count is worth, while for the healed who can demonstrate high antibodies (IgG in immunology decrease, yes, but until they stabilize), cannot take advantage of a temporary vaccination exemption when the antibody blood rate varies, given that vaccination for this group of individuals, as Massimo Galli has pointed out again, isn’t it exempt from an increase in “adverse risks”?

Those recovered from Covid await clear and detailed answers from the competent ministries, and specifically from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. On the merits, an application was presented to the Undersecretary Delegated for Prevention, Hon. Andrea Costa, registered under the protocol number SSS.AOP.MM.0211 (with the undersigned as the first signatory) who has received no more than partial response to date.

The recovered Covid and the current sick deserve further attention to their health, also in light of the numerous clinical and political-health problems they have witnessed on their own skin.
