Sport e Salute SpA will plan the construction works of the Iacovone stadium and the new PalaRicciardi in Taranto, nerve centers for the organization of the 2026 Mediterranean Games.

The official act involving Sport and Health in the organization of the international event was signed this afternoon in Rome by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Government and President of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games Organizing Committee, Massimo Ferrarese and by the CEO, Diego Nepi Molineris, in the presence of the President of Sport and Health, Marco Mezzaroma.

Sport and Health will be entrusted with the drafting of the technical-economic feasibility plans for both the “Erasmo Iacovone” municipal stadium, which will host the football tournament matches, and the new “Ricciardi” multipurpose hall dedicated to indoor athletics, martial arts and other disciplines.

Furthermore, the Company will also be the central purchasing body for the contracts for both facilities and also for those for the construction of the Swimming Stadium and the Nautical Centre.

“This one in Taranto is one of those challenges that we particularly care about – declared the President of Sport and Health, Marco Mezzaroma. We are called to make our contribution in terms of experience, effectiveness and concreteness, alongside the Government and in support of one of the most important sporting events that Italy, and specifically the South, will host in the coming years. But most of all – continues Mezzaroma – we intervene in a territory which, also through sport, can seize an opportunity for relaunch and rebirth, similar to what is already happening in Caivano with our intervention for the creation of a playground and the redevelopment of the former Delphinia Sports Center . That of sports infrastructure and facilities will undoubtedly be the most important legacy of the 2026 Mediterranean Games, and this will represent the necessary and fundamental condition for the diffusion of sports practice throughout the Taranto area and for the promotion of physical activity aimed at the psychophysical well-being of the population”.

“With the signing of this agreement with Sport and Health, the operational arm of the Government in the field of sport, we are taking an important step to compensate for the time lost – said the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Government instead, Massimo Ferrarese –. Our structure, together with that of Sport and Health, will work to achieve all the objectives set for the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games”.
