Padua, an elderly man died for the West: outbreak of infected mosquitoes alarm

Dengue fever, two confirmed cases

The two cases of dengue fever have been ascertained in the province of Pisa. The first in Cascina, where a citizen, fresh from a trip abroad and bitten by a tiger mosquito, was hospitalized. The second, however, in the Tuscan capital. This was announced by the ASL Toscana Nord Ovest.
However, there is another suspected case still to be ascertained in Brescia.

Dengue fever, mosquitoes the carrier of the virus

The virus that would have caused dengue fever in the two Tuscan patients (and perhaps also in the Lombard patient) would be that of West Nile. The natural vector of this virus are mosquitoes, especially the Culex species, Aedes albopictus (the so-called tiger mosquito) and Aedes aegypti. The virus and the resulting pathology is widespread in tropical and sub-tropical areas, and the cases in Italy at the moment are all imported (ie they concern citizens returning from travel abroad). However, it is essential to take action to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, body aches, headaches, and nausea. In severe cases, the disease can even lead to death and a timely diagnosis is essential to avoid a serious clinical picture, even before adequate treatment.

The disinfestations

After the two cases ascertained in the province of Pisa, disinfestations have started. A mandatory move, as per health protocol, established in the ordinances of Michelangelo Betti (mayor of Cascina) and Michele Conti (mayor of Pisa). According to health protocols, the disinfestations affected an area within a radius of at least 100 meters from the residence of the two infected patients. In Pisa, in particular, the man suffering from dengue fever was in a house in Lungarno Bonaccorso da Padule.
