The Ministry of Human Capital suspends food aid and medical assistance program

The Ministry of Human Capital has announced the suspension of the sending of food to community kitchens, as well as the actions of the Directorate of Direct Assistance for Special Situations (Dadse). Dadse, a program created in 2016 to help those without health coverage with vital medications, has been put on pause by the Secretary of Children, Adolescents and Family, Pablo de la Torre.

A printed sheet on the door of the organization states that Dadse will remain temporarily closed due to the readjustment of systems and procedures. This decision comes as a consequence of a provision signed by De la Torre, leaving the program in charge of attending to emergency cases in vulnerable people on pause.

Dadse focuses on delivering subsidies to individuals to finance the acquisition of medicines, supplies, and medical products for medical practices, specifically targeting the most vulnerable population. However, the economic readjustment ordered by the government has also put the program on pause.

The decision to suspend Dadse has sparked criticism, particularly given the current harsh social and economic context. Despite this, the official from the hard wing of the PRO maintains that the suspension is necessary to ensure transparency, equality, and legality in the management of the program’s actions. This decision is further complicated by the escalation of prices in the sector since the end of October, when price agreements with companies expired.

It remains to be seen how this decision will affect the most vulnerable members of society who rely on the assistance provided by Dadse.
