The Order of Doctors of Piacenza “Trust in science and medicine, we cannot give up vaccines”

by admin

Covid and vaccinations, the Board of Directors of the Order of Doctors of Piacenza intervenes. Below is the complete note

The Council ofOrder of Physicians and Dentists of the Province of Piacenza, in relation to the various current issues inherent in the SARS Covid 19 pandemic, considers it appropriate to reaffirm its trust in Science and Medicine and to remind skeptics and doubters as one of the most effective means of preventing the disease, in addition to interpersonal distancing , to protective devices and isolation of patients and contacts, is represented by mass vaccination.

The risks and damages caused by the pandemic are not only of a health nature, but also of a social and economic nature. We all cannot afford to give up a preventive means that can slow down the course of the virus and drastically reduce the severity of the symptoms of those affected. We all cannot give up the vaccines that Scientific Research has made available to us in just ten months and which have been the barrier to the possible catastrophe.

We do not want and cannot deny that vaccination practice is free from risks, rarely even serious ones, but nevertheless the benefits greatly outweigh the risks and the usefulness of vaccines against Covid 19 cannot be questioned at all. In this context, the Order of Doctors and Dentists therefore deems it right to invite, once again, all people to get vaccinated, especially doctors and dentists who, moreover, are subject to the vaccination obligation enshrined in Legislative Decree 01 / 04/2021, n. 44, art. 4, except “an ascertained health hazard, in relation to specific clinical conditions documented, certified by the general practitioner”, in which case the vaccination can be omitted or postponed.

Also the Code of Medical Ethics, in art. 14-Prevention and management of adverse events and safety of care, clarifies that it is the duty of the doctor and dentist to adapt their behavior to ensure the safety of patients and health professionals, “The doctor works to ensure the most suitable conditions safety of the patient and the operators involved, promoting for this purpose the adaptation of the organization of activities and professional behaviors and contributing to the prevention and management of clinical risk through adherence to good clinical practices “.

It is emphasized that the Council of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists will be required to evaluate, in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 01/04/2021, n. 44, art. 4, doctors and dentists who do not comply with the vaccination obligation that are ascertained and reported by the ASL.
The Council of the Order will monitor compliance by the members of the Code of Medical Ethics, also in relation to the “correctness of the health information given to citizens, which must be transparent, rigorous, prudent and based on acquired scientific knowledge and which must not disclose news that feed unfounded expectations or fears “, as sanctioned by art. 55 of the Code of Medical Deontology.
