The tolls, more details and integration with iOS and Siri coming to Google Maps

Google announces new features of Google Maps, most of which will also arrive in Italy in the coming weeks. The 3 new features are especially designed to simplify travel planning. The first – and the only one not currently foreseen for Italy – offers information on road tolls, so that travelers can take into account the rates. In addition, the maps become even more detailed with information such as road width, sidewalks, traffic lights and road signs.
Finally, greater integration with iOS and Siri: the search and direction functions of Google Maps become easily accessible directly from Spotlight and Siri.

In short, Maps users will soon be able to see the estimated cost of the toll for the chosen destination even before starting navigation. The system takes into account factors such as the cost of using a toll pass or other payment methods, the day of the week and the time you travel.

The map becomes more and more detailed: soon we will be able to see the traffic lights and stops along the route, along with more details such as the outlines of buildings and areas of interest. In some selected cities the information will be even more specific, such as the shape and width of a road.

If you have an Apple Watch you will soon be able to get directions on Google Maps directly from there. In a few weeks it will no longer be necessary to start browsing from the iPhone, just tap the Google Maps shortcut in the app on Apple Watch, and navigation will start automatically. Finally Maps is integrating directly into iOS Spotlight, Siri and the Commands app. Just say “Hey Siri, get directions in Google Maps” or “Hey Siri, search Google Maps” to instantly access useful Google Maps information.
