Should the universalism of care, which the NHS has been providing, falter – and it already shows signs of strain – social balance could be jeopardized, potentially leading to explosive repercussions akin to the challenges faced by the banlieues in neighboring France.
Addressing the mounting crisis requires not only ideas, courage, and skills but also adequate funding. It is imperative to openly acknowledge that our system is vastly underfunded. As healthcare needs and costs continue to rise in the coming years, the situation will deteriorate further. The government cannot afford to rely solely on superficial measures implemented by the concerned Minister so far. To save the NHS, decisive and coordinated actions, accompanied by substantial financial investments, are urgently required.
The key question arises: what does the government intend to do to tackle these pressing issues? Without robust funding and a strategic approach, efforts to save the NHS will amount to mere band-aid solutions. It is imperative that the government prioritizes comprehensive and long-term measures that address the underlying challenges.
