After Apple released the iOS 14.5 operating system last year, it simultaneously released the App Tracking Transparency feature, allowing iPhone and iPad users to freely choose whether or not to allow each application to track data. That being said, there is now research showing that some developers have other ways to bypass the ATT feature to obtain user data.
Readers may be wondering “Is ATT failing?” Research shows that ATT still works, but there are always loopholes in the technology that developers use to allow their apps to collect user data.
Researchers analyzed 9 iOS apps that use server-side codes to generate user identification codes. Even if users refuse to be tracked by these apps, the Chinese Alibaba subsidiary can still use these codes to track across apps, allowing advertisers to Track user data and target specific content ads to targeted users.
The report pointed out that Apple’s promise to increase the transparency of data tracking will give many users a false sense of security.
