Twitter announces new Unmentioning feature that lets you remove yourself from threads

Twitter todayAnnounceThere will be a new feature called Unmentioning that will allow you to remove yourself from the thread.

At present, this feature is only open to a small number of users in the web version. If you are one of the lucky ones, you can find a “leave this thread” in the tweet options, and then you will not be notified even if you are @@.

The “Leave this Conversation” option will appear in a pop-up menu in the lower right corner of a tweet on the web version of Twitter. (It also includes “Mute” and “Embed” options.) Clicking the “Leave this Conversation” option opens another menu detailing what happens when you leave the conversation: Your username won’t be flagged, it will Stops any future mentions of the conversation, and most importantly, it stops notifications.

Users who use the unmention feature will have their username unmarked in the original tweet and reply, and will not be able to mention their username again in the conversation.
