Two individuals in Salta charged with illegal practice of medicine
Criminal Prosecutor 2, Ramiro Ramos Ossorio, has provisionally charged a 59-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman as co-authors of the crime of illegal practice of medicine. The charges stem from a complaint made by the head of the Salta Optical Business Chamber regarding a campaign called “Visual Health” organized by the Federation of Neighborhood Centers.
The campaign, which took place in neighborhood centers, involved attendees receiving tests and eyeglass prescriptions from individuals claiming to be a doctor and an optical technician, respectively. However, it was discovered that neither of the individuals charged are registered in the College of Physicians of the Province of Salta, rendering them unable to practice medicine in the province.
Furthermore, investigations revealed that the campaign was carried out without the necessary authorization from the Ministry of Health, PROFICCSSA, or the College of Physicians. Eyeglass prescriptions were not provided with the proper seal and signature of a qualified professional, and patients were instead given a form to be attended to by the technician.
The illegal nature of the campaign and the lack of proper credentials of those involved raise serious concerns about the safety and legality of the services provided. The case will now proceed through the judicial system as the individuals face charges for their actions.
