USA, first cases of HIV infection from aesthetic injections with plasma – Medicine

Three women were almost certainly infected with the HIV virus in a VIP beauty salon in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They would be the first cases of transmission of the HIV virus confirmed following cosmetic procedures with substances injected into the skin. In particular, the so-called ‘vampire facials’ which are very popular in America are under attack: the treatment consists of micro-injections of blood plasma on the face to plump up aged and sagging skin. Investigations into the beauty center began in 2018 when the first woman treated tested HIV positive following the procedure. The center was closed, but two recent cases of HIV positivity among former clients have reopened the investigation. The New Mexico Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “identified evidence in SPA laboratories of practices that could spread infections through blood.”

The department offers free AIDS tests to anyone who has received injection procedures at the beauty center. According to the CDC, there are 59 spa customers who may have been exposed to the HIV virus either through “vampire facials” or other techniques that use injections such as Botox. .
