“Nursing Secretary Proposes Changes to Improve Territorial Assistance”
During a recent meeting of the parliamentary Intergroup for the prevention and treatment of autoimmune diseases, Nursing Secretary Andrea Bottega presented a proposal to strengthen local assistance and reduce waiting lists. Bottega emphasized the need for regulatory changes to address the challenges faced in managing health needs, especially evident during the pandemic.
Bottega highlighted the inefficiencies in the current system, pointing out activities that could be delegated to nurses to free up time for doctors to focus on more critical tasks. For example, wound management in hospital settings could be handled by specially trained nurses, thus alleviating the burden on doctors and reducing waiting lists.
The secretary also suggested implementing solutions that were previously endorsed by the Health Commission of the Regions, such as creating specialist degrees in nursing, establishing a tariff nomenclature for nursing activities, and giving nurses the ability to prescribe healthcare aids. Bottega also proposed amending existing laws to enhance the autonomy and responsibilities of nursing professionals.
Bottega urged policymakers to seize the opportunity presented by the PNRR funds to reform local healthcare systems. By starting with defining the role of family nurses and expanding their scope of activities, Bottega believes that significant improvements can be made to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery at the local level.
As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, it is essential to consider innovative solutions that empower nurses and optimize the use of resources. With the support of regulatory changes and strategic investments, the vision of a more efficient and patient-centered healthcare system could become a reality.
