The vaccine against Dengue fever can be found and administered at the traveler’s medicine centers present in most local health authorities, or in some private centers. At this moment, however, it is possible that many facilities do not have them due to long supply times and the unexpectedly large demand linked to the emergency situation occurring in South America and some areas of Asia. Availability must therefore be verified by contacting the individual healthcare companies or individual centres.
Dengue, everything you need to know about the vaccine by Mara Magistroni 22 March 2024
Normally, it is the Regions that negotiate with the manufacturing company for the purchase of the doses of a vaccine deemed appropriate to the need, an estimate that is generally based on historical data. Unfortunately, in the case of the Dengue vaccine, unfavorable conditions were created: the product was approved by the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) only a few months ago, so there was relatively little time for the Regions to purchase it and distribute it to the centers applicants; furthermore, unlike in the past, Dengue has spread widely in endemic countries, also putting countries like ours faced with an unprecedented situation in which it is not easy to plan supply. While the Regions organize themselves, however, individual local health authorities can make an emergency purchase by contacting the manufacturing company directly.
