World Hand Hygiene Day, information stands in hospitals and awareness activities in the departments

“Save lives: sanitize your hands”. This is the slogan of the World Health Organization (WHO) to celebrate World Hand Hygiene Day scheduled for Sunday 5 May. This is a simple gesture which can however prove decisive in avoiding infections in places dedicated to healthcare.
The Modena Local Health Authority is also taking part in the day with some initiatives starting from 6 May in continuity with those launched since 2014, with the campaign to promote hand hygiene “clean healthy safe hands”.

On May 8th, at the main entrances of the hospitals in Carpi, Mirandola, Vignola and PavulloThey will be present information points aimed at staff and citizens to promote the correct practice of hand hygiene. The company brochure will be distributed and illustrated by the hospital hygiene office staff “Wash your hands and remind everyone to do so” aimed in particular at patients, family members, visitors and caregivers to underline that hand hygiene is everyone’s responsibility, not just healthcare personnel.

Also the Sassuolo Spa Hospital joins the World Hand Hygiene Day with information stands Monday 6 May.

Furthermore, during the week, in collaboration with the provincial Laboratory of Clinical Microbiology, in some hospital departments, the healthcare workers will be involved in one awareness activities through the detection of the potential degree of microbiological contamination of the hands, before carrying out hand hygiene itself. The objective is to highlight the risk of spreading microorganisms in the absence of adequate sanitation.

These initiatives are in addition to those carried out continuously for several years, such as the verification of the consumption of alcoholic gel in relation to the days of hospitalization, the theoretical and in-field training of healthcare personnel, monitoring the degree of adherence to the practice of hand hygiene, during the of care activities in the department (approximately 3,500 observations were carried out in the period 2023-2024).
