Great success for Kidney Day in Cremona
CREMONA – Great success for Kidney Day in Cremona as the open day organized at Spazio Comune welcomed 127 people. Doctors and nurses of the Nephrology of Cremona, directed by Fabio Malberti, offered free kidney health consultations to citizens of all ages. Participants had the opportunity to measure blood pressure, carry out a urinalysis, and fill out questionnaires to assess risk factors and obtain an informational interview with expert staff.
Among the citizens who joined the initiative, many experienced kidney problems. Based on the analyses, some already had rather common health problems such as dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, and a family history linked to diseases of this type. The specialists underlined the importance of observing correct lifestyles, from a balanced diet to physical activity, advising to limit the use of drugs to those who already have kidney diseases or risk factors.
“We are happy to have had the opportunity to carry out so many screenings again this year,” say the nephrologists Flavia Cornacchia, Giusy Chiarelli, and Francesca Boni. “The data obtained, which will be reported to the Italian Society of Nephrology, help to reflect on the importance of prevention. Even a simple urine test or blood pressure measurement can give early information on a possible kidney disease.”
“We hope that initiatives of this kind can contribute to increasing the population’s awareness of kidney diseases,” they added. “We thank the doctors and nurses who supported us. Among these, Dr. Rosario Ariano, recently retired former head of the Hypertension Nephrology clinic in Cremona, who joined us to give his contribution. The collaboration between health workers and volunteers has reconfirmed the success of this day again this year.”
