For Apple, which is dominating the world with the App Store, obviously does not want competitors to grab jobs through the Web browser channel. But after Google Stadia, Microsoft Xbox Game Pass will also “curve into” the Apple platform in the next few weeks. At that time, the majority of iPhone and iPad users will be able to experience more abundant resources and service options.
According to Apple’s best vision, it is clear that each game that falls into its own territory will be reviewed separately. But for companies such as Microsoft with the Xbox platform, this will obviously greatly affect the user experience.
After some trade-offs, Microsoft finally chose a more roundabout solution, and in April last year announced a beta test of the Xbox cloud streaming game service based on a web browser.
Although Google Stadia is currently able to run on the Chrome browser on platforms such as macOS, its compatibility with other browsers based on the Chromium kernel (such as Microsoft Edge and Vivaldi) is still uneven.
The good news is that Microsoft’s latest announcement clearly expresses support for Apple Safari browsers on Mac, iPhone, and iPad platforms.
With the end of the Beta testing phase, the Xbox cloud streaming function is expected to be available to all XGP Ultimate subscribers in the next few weeks.
In this way, Xbox will also achieve wider device coverage than Stadia, because the latter is mainly for (part of) Android smartphones.
