Spring is finally approaching. In fact, there are only 20 days left until the long-awaited equinox, which will give us magnificent sunny days and a fill of vitamin D. With the awakening of nature, many varieties of fruit and vegetables typical of this season will also arrive on our tables. We are talking about chicory, snow peas, friar beards, strawberries, asparagus and much more. Many of these vegetables have enormous benefits on our state of well-being. For this reason today we illustrate some that not everyone knows. For example, we find zero cholesterol in this truly special food for our body. Let’s find out why.
The countless qualities of this type of lettuce
We are talking about the valerian, also called songino or valerianella. It is a salad variety that features a delicate curly shape. Being very popular, it can be found almost everywhere, from market stalls to supermarket refrigerated shelves. It is an excellent choice for those who go on a diet, as it has very few calories, especially when it is seasoned only with lemon, salt and oil. In fact, it only has 21 for each hectogram of product. Furthermore, it boasts very little fat (only 0.40 for the quantity taken into consideration) and zero cholesterol. It is practically only composed of fibers: these regulate the intestinal tract and can be useful for staying full longer and limiting the absorption of sugars and cholesterol.

These latter characteristics make it part of the branch of foods that would be beneficial for the health of the cardiovascular system. In addition, it also has excellent amounts of potassium, an element that would help its good functioning since it would counteract high blood pressure. In fact, irregular heartbeat and weakness could be consequences that highlight the deficiency of this mineral. But its good characteristics do not end there: in fact the presence of vitamin B would promote a correct functioning of the metabolism. Vitamin A, on the other hand, would protect the mucous membranes and skin. Finally, vitamin C is known to reduce flu episodes and to boost the immune system. Generally this type of product has no contraindications, but it is always better, before introducing it into your diet, to discuss with your GP.
