Fourteen people were injured on Sunday when a tree fell on a roller coaster in Tarragona, Spain. Two of them are said to be in serious condition.

About 14 people were injured on Sunday, two seriously, after a tree fell on a roller coaster at PortAventura in Tarragona, eastern Spain, the theme park said.

“This Sunday morning, due to strong winds, there was an incident caused by a tree falling near the Tomahawk attraction,” PortAventura amusement park, a favorite with tourists on Spain’s Costa Dorada, said in a statement. “Some branches struck visitors sitting in the attraction,” the statement continued.

The park added that the incident was “completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance of the attractions, which meet the highest safety standards and are subject to rigorous inspections on a daily basis.”

Catalan emergency services said they had treated 14 people. Five people had to be taken to hospital. Three of them had minor injuries, two of them are in critical condition.

The Tomahawk attraction is a “children’s roller coaster with hectic climbs and descents,” according to the PortAventura website.
