150th anniversary: Without the HTL, Steyr would be a completely different city

There are probably numerous industrial companies, research and educational facilities as well as institutions throughout Austria, perhaps worldwide, that would have developed differently without this school. But the city of Steyr would certainly have a different appearance today if this initial spark for the entire region had not occurred 150 years ago. On February 8, 1874, today’s Higher Technical Federal School (HTL) was founded as a technical school for the iron industry in the former Jesuit monastery on Michaelerplatz, which currently houses the Steyr Federal High School. Less than ten years later, the move to the Wehrgraben, today’s BAfEP, followed. Since 1920, the school has been located in the former hunter barracks in Schlüsselhof.
