In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Public Ministry (MP) in Honduras conducted a series of raids and asset seizures targeting a transnational drug trafficking organization linked to a wanted Honduran individual by the United States.

According to reports, the operation, known as Operation Dragon V, involved 19 home searches, three inspections, and the seizure of 46 assets believed to be of illicit origin. The organization in question has been operating from Colombia, shipping large quantities of cocaine to Honduras for distribution to the United States.

The main leader of the organization, Humberto Cantillano Durán, also known as “Niño,” has been identified as the mastermind behind the drug trafficking network. It is alleged that he has been orchestrating the transportation of cocaine to Honduras, where it is then sent on to the United States.

In Honduras, Mario Rodolfo Mejía Cubillas, alias “Yofo,” is said to be the leader of the organization. He was recently captured in the Trejo neighborhood of San Pedro Sula and is wanted for extradition by the District Court Eastern Virginia, USA.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Mejía Cubillas faces charges of conspiracy to import at least five kilograms of cocaine in the United States. Honduran authorities have intercepted multiple cocaine shipments in the country from 2021 onwards.

The latest crackdown on the drug trafficking organization is a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region and highlights the collaborative efforts between Honduras and the United States in combating transnational criminal organizations.
