The German Football League (DFL) announced on Thursday that FC Schalke 04’s game at VfL Osnabrück, which was originally planned for Saturday, would be canceled. The event has also been rescheduled for next Tuesday (May 7th, 2024). However, the venue is not Osnabrück, but the Millerntor Stadium of FC St. Pauli in Hamburg.
Schalke had already canceled the matchday press conference in the morning that was originally planned for Thursday. The bottom of the table from Osnabrück announced on Tuesday evening that the responsible authorities in the Lower Saxony city had temporarily banned the use of the football arena due to structural defects in the roof structure of the stadium.
Schalke pleaded for a neutral location
Schalke then refused to postpone the landmark second division game. If, as expected, the responsible authorities in Osnabrück do not withdraw the declaration of non-use of the stadium at short notice, a “local relocation is feasible and sensible,” Schalke announced on Wednesday. The Revierclub apparently got away with this idea. Just like with the rejection of a postponement to the 33rd matchday.
