An earthquake of 4.7 degrees of magnitude was recorded this Sunday, April 14, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 5:58 a.m. and its epicenter was the Paján canton, in the province of Manabí, according to the Geophysical Institute (IG).

The tremor also had a depth of 22 kilometers.

At that time, dozens of citizens took to social media to indicate that they felt the movement.

The 4.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in cantons such as Montecristi, Manta, Portoviejo, Jipijapa, Jaramijó, Rocafuerte, among others.

At the moment the authorities have not reported victims or damage to structures due to the earthquake.

Ecuador is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.

This is a ring that covers the west coast of America and the east coast of Asia and Oceania, and in which 85% of the world‘s seismic activity occurs.
