The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, but was unable to prevent some of the oil from seeping into the nearby canal.
The fire brigade was able to tie up part of it to prevent it from seeping into the ground. At the Steyr sewage treatment plant, the oil was sucked out of the sewer using a special pump truck. It is currently unclear whether further environmental damage has occurred.
