GEMONA DEL FRIULI. An explosion of a gas cylinder occurred at around 2.30 on the night between Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December in a three-storey building in via Cjarnescule in Gemona del Friuli. According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, the cylinder of about ten kg, used only occasionally in the summer, broke out following a fire that broke out from the material that had been placed outside, on the terrace on the first floor.
The explosion heavily damaged the boiler, located near the cylinder, damaging the parapet of the terrace, glass and windows. Some damage also occurred in the rooms on the lower floor. The firefighters of the Gemona detachment and the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Tolmezzo rushed to the scene.
The owner, 64, immediately turned off the methane gas and alerted the rescue as soon as he heard the explosion. Nobody was hurt. The firefighters carried out an inspection: the building was not declared unusable.
