On Thursday, February 1, a Tunisian court issued a three-year prison sentence for the leader of the Ennahda movement, Rached Ghannouchi, after convicting him in the case of his party receiving foreign funding during the 2019 election campaign.
The official spokesman for the Court of First Instance in Tunisia said: “The court’s wing chamber, which is responsible for hearing corruption cases, sentenced Rached Ghannouchi and Rafik Bouchlaka to three years in prison, with immediate effect, in the case related to a political party obtaining funding from a foreign party.”
He added that it was decided to fine the legal representative of the Ennahda Party with an amount equal to the value of the foreign funding received, amounting to $1.170 million.
