Two minors, one Venezuelan and another Ecuadorian, were rescued in the province of El Oro, bordering Peru, in an operation against human trafficking, reported this Sunday the Ecuadorian Police.

Through the Unit against Human Trafficking and Illicit Migrant Smuggling (UNAT), the Police carried out operation “Libertad XIX”, which allowed the rescue of two minors, alleged victims of the crime of human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

The investigations into the incident began after receiving an alert about the non-consensual departure of the two teenagers, the Ecuadorian Police indicated in a statement in which they added that the young women “would have been victims of deception and false promises with the intention of being transferred from illegally to another country.

According to the Police, the minors were located when “they were preparing to leave irregularly towards Perú-Tumbes.”
