The lack and precariousness of the energy service claimed another death in Chocó. In Sapzurro, Acandí district, bordering Panama, Juan Diego Palacio Soto died from inhalation of toxic gases from a small electrical generator while he slept.
The towns of Sapzurro and Capurganá have been without electricity service for several days due to damage to the obsolete, uneconomical and polluting diesel generation plants of Acandí.
In the civic strikes that Chocó has carried out in the years 2000, 2009, 2016 and 2017, the different national governments have been committed to building electrical or hydroelectric interconnection lines with the municipalities that are disconnected from the national electrical grid, among them Acandí and Unguía.
None of the governments have fulfilled: neither Pastrana, nor Uribe, nor Santos, nor Duque, nor Petro.
The acandilera community holds vigils and protests. The mayor of Acandí, Luis Fernando Martínez, traveled to Bogotá to negotiate a solution with the national government and not continue affecting the municipal economy.
