These are the topics discussed this morning in Bologna, at the regional headquarters, during the session of theRegional council for legality and responsible citizenship‘, whose proceedings were opened by the president Stefano Bonaccini. The head of the political secretariat of the Presidency was present, Gianmaria Manghi.

“Our commitment to promoting the culture of legality and increasing the safety of citizens continues,” said the president Bonaccini-. A work that we carry out with local authorities, associations, schools and which complements the daily work of institutions, judiciary, law enforcement and local police forces, with the priority objective of promoting the development of people’s quality of life within the community. With the support of projects of the Municipalities of Emilia-Romagna, we aim to influence the control and surveillance of the territory, in the belief that we must also invest in concrete actions through listening and mediation, to have a positive impact on the social fabric and promote civic coexistence”.

Since 1996 (year of entry into force of the national law for the public and social reuse of assets confiscated from the mafias) to date, in Emilia-Romagna have been 276 properties stolen from crime total, of which 81 have already been allocated and 195 are still managed by the Anbsc, the competent national agency. Of the 81 allocated assets, 55 were assigned to Municipalities which use them essentially for social purposes, 13 were kept in the state assets for institutional purposes, government uses or other public uses and another 13 were sold to satisfy creditors or other needs . Overall, the Region intervened on 30 properties confiscated from organized crime present in 22 municipalities, allocating a total of over 4.1 million euros.

“Policies for the valorization of assets stolen from crime,” he added Bonaccini– aim at the social inclusion of people who live in conditions of exclusion and marginality and at the creation of new spaces, to expand and improve services to citizens, from school to culture and sport, with particular attention to young people and the elderly” .

In total, since the Consolidated law for the promotion of legality and for the valorization of citizenship and responsible economieswere allocated further 4 million eurosagainst a total expense of almost 6 million, to redevelop properties confiscated from crime and destined for Municipalities.

There are then 44, distributed among all the provinces of Emilia-Romagna, the ‘Agreements for the promotion of legality” co-financed by the regional council with over 1.1 million euros, with which it is possible to promote and spread the culture of legality and responsible citizenship among young people, with particular attention to teaching and educational initiatives in schools. Furthermore, higher education, studies, seminar meetings in regional universities and support of Local observatories to monitor illegal phenomena and encourage the exchange of knowledge and information on criminal phenomena and their impact on the territory. Finally, particular attention is always paid to the reuse of real estate confiscated from the mafias, returned to local communities.
