Algeria and Tel Aviv… secret relations and a revived fuel trade

by admin

Informed sources reported that, according to the United Nations database, Algeria came in fifth place on the list of Arab and Islamic countries exporting to Israel in the year 2022, amounting to $21.38 million, that is, even more than countries that have declared relations with Tel Aviv, such as Morocco (17.92). (million) dollars and Bahrain (8.78 million dollars).
Contrary to what the military regime promotes through its official channels that its country is the biggest opponent of Israel, Algeria is the only Arab country that has prevented demonstrations in support of Palestine, and it also remains the only one that supplies Israel with natural gas after the Israeli fields stopped working due to the war on Gaza.
The issue of trade relations between Israel and Algeria exploded after international media revealed that a tanker seeking to load liquefied natural gas from an Egyptian terminal left empty and diverted to another in Algeria after an Israeli pipeline transporting gas to Egypt stopped, due to the aggravation of the conflict following the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Reuters, citing expert Olumide Ajayi, revealed that the tanker Sea Peak Catalunya changed its course from the Idku LNG terminal in Egypt and headed to the Arzew facility in Algeria.
This is not the first time that secret commercial relations between the Algerian military regime and Israel have been revealed, as the Israeli “I24 news” channel previously revealed commercial relations important in the field of gas and oil export between Algeria and Israel.
The channel indicated in a report in 2022 that the Algerian national oil and gas company “Sonatrach” had exported at least 50 thousand tons of liquefied petroleum gas (GPL) to Israel through a major intermediary in the global hydrocarbon market, called “Vitol.” It transports liquefied petroleum from the port of Oran to Ashkelon, Israel.
According to the same report, the Algerian company Sonatrach and Vitol were resorting to a trick to avoid raising suspicions in Algeria, as they were working to have the ships leave the port of “Arzew” in the state of Oran and then stop in the Mediterranean Sea, often at the level of the Greek coast, before then changing their direction to Ashkelon in Israel.
