The Argentine expert Roberto Meza presented a summary of the report he presented. Meza pointed out that the beginning was the motive for the crime that was born in November 2012.
The third product report could be reconstructed, Meza said. The expert referred to the second product where the motive for the crime was ruled out as organized crime, and in the third product the members who participated in the crime of General Gabela are reconstructed.
Alias ”Cojo”, who is currently sentenced and serving a sentence in the Litoral Penitentiary, revealed that alias “Francis” was the perpetrator of the murder. Alias ”Francis” achieved his release in 2012 with the payment of bail, but that same year in December his death was reported.
However, on this point the expert Meza made an unusual revelation in the third product, in which it is said that alias “Francis” records activities after the alleged death.
Derly Salazar Vargas, betrayed by alias “Cojo” as the perpetrator of the shots against General Gabela, the mime who also appears registered as Francisco Cruz Vargas who has the same fingerprints, the same alias and supposedly murdered in December 2012.
On the other hand, Meza pointed out that the third report looked for who of the generals could be behind and as masterminds of the crime. Meza pointed out that General Rodrigo Bohórquez was the one who succeeded General Gabela after his resignation.
In this case, it was revealed that General Gabela met with the President of the Republic at that time, Rafael Correa, to point out the failures and technical breaches in the purchase of the Dhruv helicopters. This transcended until the creation of a commission in the National Assembly to investigate the denunciations of General Gabela.
Creation of the commission and the report
By mandate of the Constitutional Court, the creation of a commission was ordered to reconstruct the third product of the investigation into the assassination of General Jorge Gabela.
The Court’s order was that in a public act and with the presence of the media, the third product be delivered to the widow of General Gabela, Patricia Ochoa, and to the Ombudsman’s Office. This was done on the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
A public notary from the city of Quito certified that a third product with 73 pages and in several copies was delivered, one for Gabela’s widow, Patricia Ochoa, another for the Ombudsman’s Office, for the Constitutional Court, for Fausto Cobo , for the commission.
