The exhibition “From Ljubljana to Trieste: the stone of Aurisina, the Karst and Istria in Italy and in the world“, presented today and which will be inaugurated in Warehouse 26 of the Porto Vecchio of Trieste on May 18th.
The exhibition will be open until 14 July and will be accompanied by various collateral events, including guided tours, excursions, cultural insights and workshops.
The exhibition starts from the entrepreneurial history and life of Gustav Tönnies, the most important Carniola merchant of the second half of the nineteenth century, and from the palaces and buildings built by the family company in Ljubljana, Trieste and the rest of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Other sections are dedicated to a focus on buildings built with Aurisina stone elements in Italy and around the world, to images linked to artisan activity with marble and stone, to the use of the same for the construction of monuments and trenches during the two Wars world. Visitors will be offered wooden panels and models, faithfully reproduced. In the windows and noticeboards, work materials, finished products and historical documentation will also allow you to get a complete picture of the important artisan activity.
“The exhibition dedicated to the stone of Aurisina – said the regional councilor for environmental protection, Fabio Scoccimarro – demonstrates how, with a characteristic and identifying material of the regional territory, quality building works have been carried out, not only in the Karst and in Istria but also in the rest of Europe and the world. The dedicated exhibition, which will open shortly in Porto Vecchio, presents itself as a material journey into the history of these territories and the wisdom of the hands that have been able to draw the raw material, giving it shape and above all value”.
The event is promoted by the Ermada Flavio Vidonis Group in co-organization of the Municipality of Trieste with the contribution of the Fvg Autonomous Region.
