In a recent statement, former first lady Ana García de Hernández clarified that Judge Kevin Castel has not yet ruled on the request made by the defense of former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández (JOH) for a repeat of the United States trial against him.
García took to social media to address what she described as incorrect news circulating in various media outlets, stating, “Judge Castel has NOT ruled on the matter,” in regards to the request for a new trial.
Furthermore, she expressed dissatisfaction with the recent response from the New York Prosecutor’s Office to the defense’s motion, which she claimed rejected the request and justified what she referred to as false testimony from DEA agent Jennifer Taúl. García argued that this decision highlights a strategy to leave JOH in a state of defenselessness amidst what she perceives as injustices and contradictions in the case.
The former first lady’s comments come amidst ongoing legal battles and controversy surrounding the trial of her husband, with tensions running high as the case unfolds. As the situation continues to develop, all eyes will be on Judge Castel as the fate of the repeat trial request hangs in the balance.
