Anna Roos will head the Flemish Youth Council, the official advisory body to the Flemish government on youth affairs, for three years. During that period, she wants to work for better inclusion and representation of people with a (in)visible disability in society and in the media. She also wants to work on the mental well-being of children and young people.

“As the new chairman, I want to break with the unjustified negative image surrounding young people. I believe deeply in the power of our generation, and I will continue to emphasize that at all times,” she says.

Ellen Volon, youth work advisor from Chirojeugd Vlaanderen, will become the new vice-chairman. In this position she wants to put the interests of youth work center stage.

In the coming months, the Flemish Youth Council wants to focus primarily on the elections of June 9. The intention is to draw attention to youth themes such as mobility, mental well-being and climate. The Flemish Youth Council also asks politicians to communicate more and better with young people about their positions. Politicians must also involve young people more in their campaigns and in the policies pursued after the elections, it is said.

“Politicians and parties must continue to recognize how important and numerous this group of first-time voters is. They therefore benefit from communicating clearly and clearly to us,” concludes Anna Roos.
