Argentina’s Defense Minister, Luis Petri, finalized a historic deal in Denmark on Tuesday for the purchase of 24 F-16 combat aircraft. These modernized planes are equipped with cutting-edge technology, putting Argentina on par with the best aircraft in the South American region and the world.
In a statement, Petri emphasized the significance of this acquisition, dubbing it the most important military aeronautical purchase since 1983. The deal was initially proposed in March when President Javier Milei signed a letter of intent for the purchase, which was officially completed this week.
The Minister of Defense expressed his satisfaction at bolstering Argentina’s supersonic capacity and equipping their forces with top-of-the-line aircraft. The United States Government, which facilitated negotiations and approved the sale of the F-16s, also celebrated Argentina’s entrance into the F-16 family of nations.
Denmark, which is in the process of transitioning to the more advanced F-35 aircraft, will donate an additional 19 F-16s from their fleet to Ukraine. The F-16s are known for their versatility, capable of reaching speeds of up to 2,400 km/h and serving various combat missions.
