Army troops rescue bodies of soldiers murdered by FARC dissident groups in Cauca

The rescue of the bodies, which had been delayed due to the difficult weather conditions in the region, was successfully completed on the afternoon of this Sunday, May 5, according to the Minister of Defense. In addition to the removal of the bodies, the operation also included the capture of at least three members of the FARC Dissidents, who were removed from the area.

The Minister of Defense expressed concern about the tactics used by illegal armed groups in the area, noting that the FARC Central General Staff was putting local communities at risk by using civilians as human shields to prevent the advance of military forces. .

“This practice violates International Humanitarian Law and the minimum principles of war that all organizations must respect,” declared the minister.

The increase in violence in the Cauca region has led the government to intensify its efforts to regain control of the territory, especially in the Micay Canyon. Despite the constant clashes and the risk to the military forces, the president has ordered an operation to regain full control of the area.

«The order is clear: we are going to regain control of the Micay Canyon and the territory in general. While this mission carries risks and may result in new casualties, it is essential to restore peace and security in the region,” Minister Velásquez concluded.
