Arrest after the death of a 22-year-old in Oberhausen – Ruhr area – News

The Essen police announced that homicide investigators arrested a 27-year-old man on Friday afternoon. The accused was an employee in a workshop for people with disabilities run by Oberhausener Lebenshilfe, and the dead 22-year-old also worked there.

Today the accused was brought before a judge at the request of the Duisburg public prosecutor. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the accused is now in a psychiatric hospital. The investigation into the exact background to the crime is ongoing.

Autopsy: Woman died due to external violence

The Duisburg public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday that the woman died as a result of external violence. This was revealed by the victim’s autopsy.

The young woman had a disability. On Tuesday she didn’t come home from work in the workshop. That’s why her parents reported her missing to the police in Oberhausen that evening.

A search was then initiated. The emergency services then found her lifeless on the facility’s workshop premises on Wednesday morning.

The workshop manager reacts in shock

For tactical reasons, the public prosecutor’s office is holding back on details. “We are still at the beginning of the investigation and are dealing with a particularly sensitive environment here,” said prosecutor Jill McCuller. The police are particularly careful when questioning witnesses in the workshop for people with disabilities.

The head of the Oberhausener Lebenshilfe workshop reacted with dismay to the 22-year-old’s death: they were absolutely shocked. A friend of the victim from the workshop said that the young woman would never have confided in anyone lightly and would never leave the workshop without telling them.
