Concern of the merchants of the historic center

ALGHERO. Arson attack last night against the «9 3/4 artisan ice cream parlor», in via Carlo Alberto, in the historic center of Alghero. According to an initial reconstruction of the incident made by the carabinieri of the Alghero Company, led by Captain Pietro Barrel, around 3.30 unknown persons sprinkled the front door and the shop window with flammable liquid to set the fire. Passers-by immediately put out the flames which partially damaged the windows. The firefighters also intervened on the spot and definitively extinguished the principle of fire and made the room safe. Investigators heard some witnesses who allegedly saw a suspect leave the site of the attack, and acquired the images recorded by the video surveillance cameras in the area. At the moment there are no correlations with the arson attack that destroyed a merchant’s car in broad daylight on April 28, parked at the Cristoforo Colombo ramparts, a stone’s throw from the ice cream parlor that burned last night. In that case, two young people set the fire, arrived aboard a scooter and doused the car with flammable liquid, lit the flames and ran away. The district committees and the traders of the historic center express their concern: «Two arson episodes in eight days, damaging economic activities located in the historic center, are a worrying alarm signal for us. In expressing our solidarity with those who have suffered these gestures, we ask the mayor, the authorities, the police to implement and coordinate the necessary actions to combat and prevent such incidents “.
