The Fidal has formalized the names of the squad less than a month after the five-circle appointment (from 30 July to 8 August), in all 41 men and 35 women who make up the largest athletics team ever. Among them there is also the Atletica Calvesi athlete from Valle d’Aosta for the 400 obstacles and for the 4×400 and 4×400 mixed races.
“The Federal Council has unanimously chosen to give all athletes who have matured the right to be at the Olympics the opportunity to be there,” explained the president of Fidal, Stefano Mei. “A non-trivial fact, a choice that I consider to be on the field, in support of the athletes and their commitment, of the work of the technicians, of the clubs, who have suffered a lot in the pandemic, like the rest of the country, and deserve to be recognized all of this. The blue on the pitch in Tokyo will be a sign of hope, of confidence in the future of Italy, an incentive for subsequent generations to commit themselves to succeed in sport ».
