Huang Kunming Announces Opening of Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center

On the evening of April 28, the Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center in Guangzhou was officially opened during an impressive ceremony attended by top provincial leaders and distinguished guests. Huang Kunming, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, announced the opening of the center, which includes the new Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum.

The event was graced by the presence of Wang Weizhong, deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and governor of the province, who delivered a speech highlighting the importance of cultural construction and the need to strengthen cultural confidence. Huang Chuping, director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, and Lin Keqing, chairman of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference, also attended the ceremony.

The Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center, designed by China Academician He Jingtang, is a major landmark public cultural facility with a total construction area of over 140,000 square meters. It houses the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum. The shape of the center, resembling a ship moored on the shore of the Pearl River, symbolizes a giant ship carrying the treasure troves of Lingnan culture ready to set sail.

During the ceremony, Fan Di’an, Chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, lauded the significance of the Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center and its international standards. He expressed his excitement for the new landmark for art and culture in the Greater Bay Area, emphasizing the role of the center in promoting the development of Chinese fine arts in the new era.

The opening ceremony featured a tour film showcasing the construction of the art center, as well as drone performances and artistic showcases. Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to explore the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum.

The event was attended by various provincial leaders, including Chen Jianwen, Zhang Hu, and Wang Xi, as well as other distinguished guests. The Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center promises to be a hub for cultural exchange and enrichment, showcasing the rich heritage and vibrant arts scene of Guangdong province.
