The Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center officially opens in Guangzhou

On the evening of April 28, the Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center held its grand opening ceremony in Guangzhou. The event was attended by high-profile guests including Huang Kunming, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Wang Weizhong, Deputy Secretary, and Governor of the province, as well as other provincial leaders.

The Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center, located in Liwan District, Guangzhou, is a significant landmark public cultural facility that houses the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum. Designed by China Academician He Jingtang of the Academy of Engineering, the center boasts a total construction area of over 140,000 square meters and a total exhibition area of 40,000 square meters. Its unique design, resembling a ship moored on the shore of the Pearl River, symbolizes a giant ship carrying the treasure of Lingnan culture and art about to set sail.

During the opening ceremony, Wang Weizhong highlighted the importance of cultural construction and emphasized the need to strengthen cultural confidence, uphold openness, and promote innovation. The Baietan Greater Bay Area Art Center serves as a platform to showcase Lingnan culture, foster public leisure activities, and facilitate exchanges within the Bay Area.

Fan Di’an, Chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, praised the center as a major cultural facility with international standards that will establish a new landmark for art and culture in the Greater Bay Area. The opening exhibition featured works by renowned artists celebrating the traditions of Guangdong art and its impact on the development of modern Chinese art.

The event also included drone performances, artistic showcases, and a tour of the various museums within the center. Provincial leaders, city officials, and academicians were among the distinguished guests in attendance.
