Bavarian Constitutional Court decides on cycling referendums

Munich: In the dispute over the legality of the wheel referendum, the Bavarian Constitutional Court wants to announce its verdict today. If the judges approve the initiative, which is supported by more than 100,000 people, there would be a Bavaria-wide referendum. However, the state government considers the referendum to be legally inadmissible, which is why the Interior Ministry appealed to the Constitutional Court. The initiators of the “Radentscheid Bayern” call for a new bicycle law. The aim is to build, convert, expand and renovate cycle paths. The Interior Ministry, on the other hand, argues that the Radgesetz would interfere with Parliament’s budgetary rights. A good two weeks ago, the CSU and Free Voters presented their own draft for a new bicycle law, but that does not go far enough for the initiators. (BAYERN 2 news 07.06.2023 06:00)
