Paing Takhon will have to serve his sentence in forced labor

(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 28 – One of Burma’s best-known faces, the model and actor Paing Takhon, was sentenced to three years in prison for taking part in a mass anti-coup protest. The BBC reports it.

Takhon, who is followed by millions of young people on social media and is a major critic of the online government, was arrested last April by 50 soldiers who arrived at his home at five in the morning aboard eight trucks.

According to his lawyer Takhon has already been jailed and will have to serve his sentence in forced labor. His family is considering whether to appeal. (HANDLE).
