Cagliari municipal elections: Zedda candidate for mayor, 48 hours to decide – News

The centre-left will still need 48 hours before unraveling the issue of the candidacy for mayor of Cagliari in the next local elections, made official today for 8 and 9 June with a possible run-off on 23 and 24.

The coalition table of the broad camp convened for this evening and projected on the name of Massimo Zedda, of the Progressives, has granted the Democratic Party, which in any case has not put alternative names on the table, more time for further internal steps. We are moving towards a postponement to Monday 15th.

The name of the former mayor of the capital (two consecutive terms from 2011 to 2019), president of the Progressive party and regional councilor for the last five years, has always been the only one on the table, also linked to the balance of the table on the regional and to the candidacies in Sassari and Alghero.

The choice to take the field was made official by Zedda himself in early January with the willingness to also undergo the primaries. The doubt that there could be a candidate representing the dem, with the hypothesis of the secretary Piero Comandini himself, should have been resolved with the election of the latter to the highest seat of the Sardinian Assembly.

The Democratic Party has the games in Sassari and Alghero at stake, still open with the rest of the coalition, but towards a double dem investiture, that of Gianfranco Ganau in the Turritan city and Raimondo Cacciotto in the Catalan centre.
